Design Institute “Soyuzhimpromprojekt” was established in 1953 in the USSR defense sector of industry. The first Director was Nicholas A. Kondratenko, who headed it for 25 years.

The Institute provides the design of the following facilities:

• chemical, explosive and fire hazardous plants of basic organic and inorganic synthesis, alcohol and alcoholic beverage production, petrol and gas stations, production of detergents; production of plant safety products;
• all types of buildings;
• water supply, sewage, firefighting and water filtering systems;
• heating, ventilation, air conditioning systems of civil and industrial buildings;
• gas supply facilities.

In addition, the Institute works in the areas of:

• Geological and geodetic research.
• General layouts for industrial enterprises, industries, individual buildings and structures of industrial, warehouse and auxiliary facilities, projects of a vertical design, landscape gardening, equipping with services and utilities, roads and railways.
• Projects of lifting equipment installation, crane ways, elevators.
• Projects of buffer area of industrial enterprises, landscape gardening of buffer area.
• Projects of neighborhoods, housing complexes, communities, holiday camps, residential buildings, etc.
• Engineering and technical measures of civil defense.
• Performing general design.

The Institute developed general designs for several dozens of large industries located in Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Soviet republics as well in foreign countries, Iraq, Syria, Czechoslovakia, and Bulgaria.

The Institute designs joint ventures in the territories of Russia, Tatarstan, Kazakhstan and enterprises using foreign equipment from the USA, Italy, Yugoslavia, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland and other countries.

One of the latest projects of “Soyuzhimpromprojekt” is modern Oil Refining and Petrochemical Complex which is oriented at processing 7 mln. tpa of sour oil into a wide range of petrochemical products of oil refinery TANECO.
