Project Management for Research


 

This course provides you with the primary tools needed to effectively management a research project. Successful projects which are completed in a timely and cost-effective manner require detailed planning. Furthermore, in today’s world, most large projects require multi- disciplinary teams to be successful and thus knowing how you behave in a team context is vital. This course includes not only the traditional project planning tools such statement of work, requirements development, work break down structures, and decision matrices but also risk management and failure mode analysis. To complement these tools, you will be introduced to the critical factors that influence successful team dynamics and how your own personality and decision-making style may impact those dynamics. Numerous course practicums and self-reflections will be used to reinforce successful teaming skills. Project management tools will be applied an actual team project relevant to this master’s curriculum.

At the end of this course, you will be able to:

1. Identify appropriate methods to plan and execute a research project.

2. Demonstrate proficiency in the use of project management and system engineering tools.

3. Recognize the critical factors in achieving successful team dynamics.
