Theautumnsemesterof 2019/2020 academicyearwas unusual and exciting for Master’s degree students at the Department of Innovations in Chemical Technology. Their curriculum was enhanced by additional classes about the European Union with the support of the European Commission under Jean Monnet Module grant. The classes served multiple purposes of creating interest in the EU among the students, fostering the European angle into the mainly non-EU related studies, engaging students in interactive games, debates and polls thus promoting student-centered learning approaches. The classes were given within the following existing curriculum courses: “English as a Foreign Language”, “Business Communications”, “Quality Control”, and “Industrial Technologies and Innovations”.

After completing the courses in the autumn semester, the students miss these classes in the spring, and give the following comments: “The information which we learnt during classes was interesting and useful. We summarized our knowledge about the countries and the European Union as a whole. The classes had many advantages and few disadvantages which were insignificant. I enjoyed the framework of the classes and valued the efforts of our professors.”

Nazar Nepesov, MSc student, group 531-M1

“We got many insights about the European Union. I was interested in the University 3.0concept. The classes benefited from non-standard approaches and information useful for the students’ general outlook. Apart from theoretical concepts, professors gave us many real life examples. These classes contributed to our further studies.”

Milyausha Zmazneva, MSc student, group 531-M1

“I would like to express my gratitude to professors of my Department for taking their time and effort for finding new information. The program gains from the interesting facts about different cultures which will contribute to success in our future careers.I enjoyed classes in Business Communications related to cultures of different EU countries”

Kirill Koklin, MSc student, group 531-M1

“The program gave me a different angle to look at some European processes with insights behind the power of surprises and opportunities. Instead of a traditional focus on cold dry facts, the classes simulated real life situations, held opinion polls, and described role models. I am not yet sure how to use the information received, but I believe that in the course of time I will find answers to all questions”

Diana Kosheeva, MSc student, group 531-M1
