NEW PETROCHEMICAL LABORATORY FROM GAZPROM COMPANY OPENED AT KNRTU

05.09.2023

On September 1, a large laboratory for organic and petrochemical synthesis was opened at KNRTU. A completely renovated, modern educational space appeared in the Institute of Petroleum, Chemistry and Nanotechnologies, one of the leading divisions of the technological university.

The laboratory opening is one of the goals of a large-scale program to modernize KNRTU educational, scientific and public spaces, which has been implemented by Rector Yury Kazakov’s team since 2020. Assistance from partners who provided financial support for the renovation work (Gazprombank) and procurement of laboratory equipment (funds were allocated by PJSC Gazprom, the project supervisor is Gazprom Pererabotka LLC) helped to bring the joyful event closer. “I would like to express my gratitude to our partners for their assistance and caring attitude to science and education,” – said the head of the university in his welcoming speech.

In turn, Gazprom Pererabotka and Gazprombank representatives Daria Stepanova and Yury Maiorchik emphasized that KNRTU graduates have a good level of knowledge, which allows them to successfully build a career in production and management (an illustrative example here is a graduate of 1995, Ayrat Ishmurzin, now General Director of Gazprom Pererabotka), and that the parties have both the desire and opportunities to develop partnership relations.

The new laboratory is located at the Department of Basic Organic and Petrochemical Synthesis Technology, which carries the name of its founder and first head, the outstanding chemist Prof. Gilm Kamay (1901–1970). His daughter Svetlana Kamay took part in the opening ceremony.

– I am delighted that my father’s work continues, he has so many young followers. His life is an example of selfless devotion to science, civil courage and determination. He made himself: a barefoot boy from Tetushi became an outstanding scientist, after whom the chemical reaction is named, he became the creator of the scientific school and of this fruitful department. I hope that his example will inspire many of you on your life and scientific path, – she addressed the gathered faculty and students.

The laboratory is equipped with automated exhaust hoods and other equipment necessary for safe work. The new educational space is already included in the class schedule. More than 350 future engineers will conduct chemical experiments here every week.
