Professor Yuriy Galyametdinov, Head of the Department of Physical and Colloid Chemistry at KNRTU, has presented the new Laboratory of Molecular Engineering and Smart Materials to Valery Falkov, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation. It was created within the framework of the «Priority 2030» program and funds from the RSF. The laboratory is the place, where a number of grants are implemented with the support of Vladimir Potanin Foundation, including the anniversary grant #potaninfoundation25. Advanced luminescent materials (quantum dots and similar systems) for microelectronics and biomedicine are studied here.

"We are working on the application of quantum dots and other similar systems to use as tracers for oil and petroleum products, markers for security papers and banknotes, transport systems for targeted medicine delivery. Contrast reagents for tomography are being researched together with the tomography laboratory of the Zavoisky Physical-Technical Institute of the Kazan Scientific Center, Russian Academy of Sciences," said Yuriy Galyametdinov.

The professor highlighted the fundamental achievements of the scientists who work at the department. There are grants, awards of the President of the Russian Federation and Republic of Tatarstan, publications in highly rated international journals. Master's theses in the field of molecular engineering are also implemented on the basis of the laboratory.

The scientist paid special attention to the instrumentation basis. Alongside with the latest foreign equipment, domestic one that meets the world scientific level, has been purchased and successfully used. One of the examples is an atomic force microscopy, "Spin Track".
