Academic Writing and Critical Thinking


 

This course provides you with key principles of effective and efficient academic writing. Seminars emphasize abstract and research statement development in text-based essay assignments. We will introduce and review main concepts of academic argument, international research databases and journal requirements.The course guides you through common organizational structure in scientific writing such as introduction, methods, results, and discussion.

By the end of the course, students should be able to:

1. Identify, analyze and summarize assigned reading material with an understanding of structure and mechanics from print and electronic environments;

2. Demonstrate and apply knowledge of basic essay structure (introduction, body and conclusion) and present logical arguments to support an effective thesis statement;

3. Develop, prepare and propose abstract writing model including pre-writing, planning, drafting, revising, editing, re-writing and proof reading
