Basic Supramolecular Chemistry

The course is designed to introduce to the basic concepts of organic chemistry and supramolecular chemistry. In the part devoted to organic chemistry, the main classes of hydrocarbons, as well as oxygen-containing derivatives of hydrocarbons are considered. Understanding of these sections is necessary for mastering the concepts and basic concepts of supramolecular chemistry. Supramolecular chemistry part comprises the basic concepts, terminology, non-covalent interactions and their influence on the supramolecular assemblies structures, methods for studying supramolecules fine structure.

Practicums will provide an opportunity to get acquainted with the methods of purification and identification of organic substances and synthesis of supramolecular compounds, methods of their identification, using them as delivery systems.

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

1. Know: a) Principles of classification and nomenclature of organic compounds, structure of organic compounds, classification of organic reactions, chemical and physical properties of hydrocarbons, methods of hydrocarbon synthesis;
b) The methodology of supramolecular chemistry, objects of supramolecular chemistry;
c) Practical use of supramolecular chemistry results in human life

2. a) Provide experimental methods of organic compounds purification and determination of their physicochemical properties;
b) Analyze organic compounds using chemical and physicochemical methods of analysis

3. a) Determine supramolecular objects according to certain criteria;
b) Apply certain physicochemical methods for the analysis of supramolecular systems
