EU Quality Standards and Environmental Policy for Polymer Production in EU Countries

10.11.2021

In 2021-22 academic year, during the classes in “EU Quality Standards and Environmental Policy”, Anna Starodubova, an Associate Professor at the Department of Innovations in Chemical Technology, ran discussions with students on the topics polymer industries in the European Union countries. The discussions covered the influence of different trends such as the changes in the legislation, development of new technologies, and introduction of the lock-down due to pandemic.

During the final class, the students demonstrated the knowledge and skills that they gained during the course. They divided into 3 teams. Each of the teams, using the Foresight method, presented a three-dimensional model: the past, the present and the future of the polymer production industry taking into account the quality standards and environmental policies. The model was demonstrated using the examples of the EU leading polymer industries, such as Dow Chemical Company, Inovyn, and Trinseo.

The forecasts were given for the period of 5 years, 2021-2025. The teams presented their forecasts based on opportunities and threats which come from different trends (technologies, regulations, events). The teams showed the degrees and terms of influence on the polymer production industry.
