TRAINING ENGINEERING MASTER’S DEGREE STUDENTS FOR INTERCULTURAL PROFESSIONAL COMMUNICATION THROUGH STUDYING EU COUNTRIES’ CULTURE

Yu.N. Ziyatdinova, E.E. Valeeva

The paper examines higher education development in a global environment with an emphasis on internationalization at home universities which implies integration of the international dimension into the curriculum for all students within do-mestic learning environments. The international dimension is considered in terms of Russia – European Union relationships where collaboration is mutually beneficial in engineering and development of modern technologies. Therefore, it is im-portant to train master’s degree students from engineering programs to develop intercultural skills for professional commu-nication with potential partners from EU companies. EU culture is characterized as the driving force for innovations and creativity; while studying the EU culture, Russian students develop their intercultural competencies. Based on documents and agenda of the European Union and the European Commission, the authors have developed teaching and learning mate-rials about EU culture for Russian engineering students. The practical experience of teaching students shows that integra-tion of these materials into curriculum contributes to developing intercultural competencies of engineering students. Further studies on EU culture and its integration into engineering curriculum are to follow.

INVESTIGATING HOFSTEDE CULTURAL DIMENSIONS AMONG ENGINEERING STUDENTS

Julia N. Ziyatdinova

International cooperation is impossible without intercultural competencies of employees and their readiness to work in multicultural teams. Therefore, engineering students should be aware of cultural differences between nations, understand their cultural dimensions criteria, and be capable to find contact with people from other cultures. The paper used G. Hofstede survey methods to evaluate the levels of cultural dimensions of Master’s degree engineering students in a Russian university. The data obtained were compared to the Cultural CompassTM online databank. The majority of cultural dimensions parameters matched the figures from the online databank, while two dimensions, namely, “power distance” and “uncertainty avoidance” gave different results. The survey and its results were later discussed with the students. The discussions showed that the students were open for a dialog, and interested in improving their intercultural competencies. The investigation results showed that by engaging engineering students into discussing cultural diversity and unity issues we can provide a higher efficiency team work of the local and international students. This experience has a positive impact on the competitiveness of the future graduates. Further research will enlarge the number of students participating in cultural surveys. Keywords: engineering education, Master’s degree programs, cultural diversity and unity, cultural dimensions, G. Hofstede, social and cultural experience, competitiveness of university graduates.

THE ROLE OF QUALITY STANDARDS FOR CHEMICAL PRODUCTS EXISTING ON THE MARKETS OF THE EUROPEAN UNION IN DEVELOPMENT OF INNOVATIVE ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Anna Starodubova, Chulpan Misbakhova, and Nailya Gareeva

The article studies the method of assessment of the impact of standards on the results of the industry: innovation, product quality, generation of waste, level of "Green Economy" and foreign trade. The approbation which has been carried out for chemical products from 26 countries of the EU in 2018 (based on the cluster analysis is given in the study). It has been concluded that the high level of coverage of standards stimulates innovation of recycling. The level of foreign trade, and the generation of waste occur regardless of the level of coverage of the standards. The high speed of implementation of the standard ensures the high level of "Green Economy". The more permanent policy of standards ensures high quality of products. Germany is the benchmark for the high level of influence of standards on the results in the chemical industry. For the rest counties of the EU, the potential of standards is not fully disclosed for reasons of insufficient coverage of standards or a large volume of waste. This assessment allows finding the benchmark of the country for study of the positive impact of standards and it helps to identify the successful strategies of standards for achieving high results in the industry.

ENGAGING ENGINEERING STUDENTS IN CULTURAL DIVERSITY AND UNITY STUDIES

Julia Ziyatdinova, Olga Oleynikova, Elvira Valeeva

The increase in the number of international students in the universities worldwide has led to new challenges and opportunities in engineering education. Despite the created multicultural environment, its participants still tend to congregate with peers from their native countries, especially in the engineering programs, where more attention is traditionally paid to research experiments and work-based experience, rather than to communication strategies. The paper aims at developing new strategies of engaging engineering students in intercultural communication through participation in cultural diversity and unity studies

Keywords — cross-cultural communication, cultural diversity and unity, engineering students

ENTREPRENEURIAL UNIVERSITY 3.0 IN EUROPEAN UNION

Valiyev, I.R.

The paper analyses the new role of the universities in the economy of knowledge where they have to focus on entrepreneurship apart from teaching and research. Thus, entrepreneurship provides the necessary links in the triad of industry, research and education. This trend is typical for different countries of the world. In reforming the Russian higher education, the best practices of the European Union universities can be very helpful.

ROLE OF INTERNATIONAL QUALITY STANDARDS IN CHEMICAL PRODUCTION

Koshcheeva D., Starodubova A.

The authors selected international quality standards applicable to chemical production. The selection was based on the number of certificates issued by the International Organization for Standardization in the World for 2018. The proportion of the number of individual ISO certificates by country has been calculated. The authors have ranked countries according to the number of ISO certificates received.

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY OF BUSINESS IN COUNTRIES OF EUROPEAN UNION

Sultanov R.R.

The paper deals with the issues of international cooperation under globalization of the world economy. Under these circumstances, intercultural communication issues should be taken into account. The paper considers the example of corporate social responsibility in the European Union countries as an important issue in building cooperation.
