Department of Food Biotechnology was founded in 2004 by dividing the Department of Industrial Biotechnology.

About 1000 engineers in “Biotechnology” have been trained since the Department foundation. They work at plants, where food, medical, environmental biotechnology are used in the process of goods production. Among the graduates of the department are the Chief Engineer of “Tatspirtprom”, the chief engineer of JSC “Edelveis" and others.

Academics

Department of Food Biotechnology trains students in three Specialist Degree programs:

  • Biotechnology (Technology of protein and biologically active substances (BAS));
  • Food Biotechnology;
  • Technology of Baby Food and Functional Food.

The Departments gives Master’s Degree programs in:

  • Chemical Technology and Biotechnology;
  • Chemical Technology of Biologically Active Substances.

Practical training is conducted at large enterprises such as "Tathimfarmpreparat" (www.tatpharm.ru), "Tatkrahmalpatoka " (www.yellow-pages.ru/kvas), “Tatspirtprom” (www.tatspirtprom.ru), “Krasnyi vostok” (www.efesrussia.ru, www.efesglobal.com), "JSC “VAMIN Tatarstan” “Kazan Milk Factory” (www.vaminkazan.ru) and others.

Research

Department Professors do research in the following areas:

  • intensification of biological processes in food biotechnology;
  • creation of food biologically active additives;
  • creation of high performance plant protection products on the basis of bacillus badius bacteria;
  • engineering enzymology;
  • development of fungal chitin technology and its chemical modification.
