The Department was established in 1991 due to the start of the first Specialist Degree Program “Mechanical Engineering for Food Production”.

Academics

The Department has been running Specialist Degree program “Technology of Fermentation Production and Wine-making” since 1994, and Specialist Degree program “Technology of Tinned Food and Food Concentrates” since 1997.

The Department has had nine graduations of Mechanical Engineers and six graduations of Chemical Engineers. Department graduates take part in the production of high-quality food, alcohol, liquor, beer and beverages at different specialized food plants.

Students of this department have practice at such famous enterprises as “Krasnyi vostok” (www.efesrussia.ru, www.efesglobal.com), Kazansky myasokombinat (www.kazan-meat.ru), JSC “Kholod” (www.kazan-kholod.ru), Tatspirtprom (www.tatspirtprom.ru) and others.

Research

During the period of its existence the department has developed and patented unique powdered foodstuffs and technology of coloring matter production for foodstuffs that have passed all required state tests and are being successfully used in food industry (supervisor – Full Professor Zufar K. Galiakberov). Technology of wet milling is being successfully implemented at “Tatspirtprom” (supervisor – Full Professor Peter A. Petrushenko).
