KNRTU graduate students are constantly on the lookout for new research funding opportunities taking part in various grant and scholarship competitions. Recently, 9 young KNRTU researchers were awarded grants and awards of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences. One of them is Matvey Talan, a master’s degree student in the Food Production Equipment Department.
Matvey’s research project is aimed at enhancing food and forage quality, and one of the project stages involved building an insect farm. Insect biomass conversion allows to turn food waste into proteins, fats, chitin and biofertilizers. The outputs can then be used in cosmetic industry, pharmaceutics, compound feeds and even for diesel fuel production.
The technology designed by Matvey’s research team allows to speed up insects’ development by as much as 10% subsequently increasing the output. All the food and forage additives produced using this technology are completely safe for people and animals.
