On February 17th, representatives of SIBUR company headed by member of the Board of Directors and Maria Borisova, Managing Director for Development and Innovations of SIBUR visited KNRTU.
Colleagues from SIBUR met with Yury Kazakov, Rector of KNRTU, visited the complex of polyolefin laboratories, as well as talked to Master’s Degree students of the polyolefin program of the Advanced Engineering School of KNRTU.
Oleg Sazonov, Head of the Polyolefins Laboratory at the “Promkhimteh” Advanced Engineering School, Associate Professor of the Department of Synthetic Rubber Technology, conducted a tour of the laboratories representing the full cycle of polyolefins production- synthesis, catalysis and processing, methods of their research, and presented samples of equipment. This included a unique reactor system jointly developed with colleagues from SIBUR Innovations to produce polyethyene (PE) and polypropylene (PP), as well as the main processing equipment – a bursting machine, pelletizing line, hydraulic press, injection molding machine and single-screw extruder. Research sectors of the laboratory are represented by differential scanning calorimeters, spectrophotometers, laser particle analyzers and others.
The polyolefin laboratory complex was opened in October last year and is already being actively used for both scientific and educational purposes. SIBUR representatives expressed interest in the presented equipment from the position of conducting joint research and development in the interests of SIBUR, primarily SIBUR PolyLab and the R&D center in Kazan.
"The capabilities of our university are not limited to the presented laboratory complex. The university has a wide range of equipment, specialized laboratories, as well as a powerful “human resource” - our scientists and students," noted Yury Kazakov, Rector of KNRTU.
At the end of the tour there was a meeting with the first-year Master's Degree students of the polyolefins program. This is the first program of this profile in Russia. Here students study the basics of polyolefins modeling, their structure and properties, research methods.
