St. Petersburg hosted The International Festival "Ethnofashion‑Sences" with the support of the Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives. The large-scale event included non-competitive and competitive fashion shows, a lecture day and an award ceremony.
Ekaterina Frantsuzova, a student of the Department of Clothing and Footwear Design at the Institute of Light Industry, Fashion and Design at KNRTU, won first prize in the Casual Suits nomination. She presented a bright and modern collection of "Dushu Greika"(Soul Warmer). Our university “Muzy” Fashion Theater was responsible for the unforgettable stage presentation.
The " Dushu Greika " collection is inspired by the traditional Russian sleeveless jacket. The clothing models represent a harmonious combination of elements of Russian folk culture and modern fashion trends. In addition, the collection demonstrates a respectful work with ethnocultural codes: each product is made of natural fabrics and decorated with hand embroidery, which is made using a seam-set technique and preserves the richness of the ornament. The exquisite knitted hats and shoes with customization are inspired by Suzdal Khokhloma. Quilted suits made in a symbolic red and black color scheme combine historical motifs with a modern cut.
"The achievements of our students are always very encouraging and cause for pride! The department has been actively studying and supporting the direction of ethnofashion for many years, which is a powerful tool for preserving and popularizing ethnic culture. In addition, it supports identity and makes traditions relevant for new generations," says Professor Natalia Tikhonova, Head of the Department of Clothing and Footwear Design.
The main theme of the festival in 2025 was a cross-cultural dialogue that today it is important not only to communicate between different national cultures, but also to sincerely accept their peculiarities, as well as to find points of artistic worldview intersection.
