DEPARTMENT OF COMPRESSOR MACHINES AND UNITS

Department Chair: Evgeniy R. Ibragimov

Phone: +7 (843) 231-41-28

Address: Building "G" – 10 Alexander Popov str., Kazan

History

The Department was established in 1963, while high growth chemical, petrochemical and oil-refining branches of industry required qualified specialists. The first department chair was Georgy A. Pospelov, PhD, Associate Professor. The Department was well-equipped with compressor machines of all main types. The Department collaborated with compressor plants, especially Kazan Compressor Plant, where students got practical skills and enhance their knowledge. The Faculty of the Department included well-known specialists: A.A. Tarzimanov, V.A. Maksimov, and ex-director of Kazan Compressor Plant R.A. Myratov.
The Department was developing fast in 1970s with about 100 students graduated every year. Its course «Refrigerating machines» became so intensive that its implementation required establishing of a new department.
In 1973 branch of the Department of Compressor Machines and Units was opened in Special Design Bureau for compressor manufacturing where the Department trained specialists in screw and centrifugal compressors. Many of them became leading professionals and top managers in the Special Design Bureau.
Valery A. Maksimov headed the Department in 1982-2012.

Ilgizar R. Sagbiev has been chaired the Department since 2012. Now 4 Full Professors, 9 Associate Professors, 2 Assistant Professors and 2 Instructors work at the Department.

Academics

The Department runs the following programs:
1. Bachelor Degree program in “Production Machines and Equipment” (“Vacuum and Compressor Engineering of Physical Units);
2. Master Degree program in “Energy-Efficient Compressor Units and Gas-Pumping Units for Gas Processing and Transportation”.
The Department offers Postgraduate Degree programs:
1. Machine Science, Drive System and Machine Elements.
2. Vacuum, Compressor Technique and Pneumatic Machines.
Thesis Board operates on the Department.
The Department provides a unique laboratory facilities for educational and research purposes. The following laboratories operate:
- Centrifugal, piston-type, and screw compressors laboratories;
- Diagnostics and dynamics laboratory;
- Refrigerating and gas equipment laboratory.
The Department includes the Computer Laboratory. Modern software is available for students and Faculty to carry out calculation, drawing and three-dimensional modeling. There is an archive of all types of compressor drawings.
7 manuscripts, 2 tutorials, textbook and Tatar-Russian-English-German “Dictionary of Compressor Technique Terms” were published over the last 15 years.

The research focuses on:

1. Dynamics of turbo-compressor machines in plain oil- and gas-lubricated bearings. (Investigation was carried out in 1963-1990 and supervised by Full Professor G.A. Pospelov, Doctor of Engineering);
2. Thermophysical properties of liquids and gases at high pressure and temperatures. (Research was carried out in 1963-1979 and supervised by Full Professor A.A. Tarzimanov, Doctor of Engineering);
3. Research and development of a liquid-ring compressors and vacuum-pumps. (Investigation was carried out in 1965-1992 and supervised by Associate Professor I.A. Paizman);
4. Thermoelastohydrodynamic study of lubrication for thrust and support units in turbo machines. (Research has been conducted since 1972 and supervised by Full Professor V.A. Maksimov, Doctor of Engineering);
5. Compressor units, sealing systems, rotor slider bearings, their reliability, life time and energy consumption optimization. (The supervisor of the research was Full Professor V.A. Maksimov in 1993-2012).

Development prospects

Department will enhance collaboration with OAO Gazprom in research and advanced training of specialists.
