History

The Department was established in 1919 as a part of Kazan industrial college. At that time, the department was chaired by Associate Professor P.I. Zhakov, who was a top class mechanical engineer, the winner of the highest Soviet Union awards, namely, the Order of Lenin and the Badge of Honor. Today, the Department Chair is Full Professor Vyacheslav A. Lashkov. He has been in this position since 2004.

The Department gives courses in Theory of Machines and Mechanisms, Machine Elements and Material Handling Equipment.

Research

Research at the department focuses on the following areas:
- Research of heat and mass exchange processes taking place at lowering the pressure of the steam and gas medium
- Development of the energy saving and waste-free technologies and equipment
- Reliability and life time of the compressor and turbo-refrigeration machines
- Research of the peculiarities of the shafts and rotors balancing.
- Reliability and durability of compressor and turbo-refrigeration machines by technological methods
