The Department of Wood Processing was established at 25th December 1995.

The Department chair is Rushan G. Safin, Full Professor, Doctor of Science in Engineering, and winner of awards, namely, Honored Inventor of the Russian Federation and of the Republic of Tatarstan.

The developed wood processing industry of the Republic of Tatarstan requires well-trained specialists.

At the department students are trained in wood structure and properties, modern technologies and technique for mechanical and chemical processing for wood products. Modern computing technologies are extensively used during the course.

Research areas:

- Drying of wood materials (supervised by Full Professor Rushan Safin);
- Thermal methods of wood waste utilization (supervised by Full Professor Nail Timerbaev);
- Recovery of high value and toxic volatile components during milling with condensation and adsorption methods (supervised by Doctor of Engineering Dilara Ziatdinova);
- Wood pyrolysis and gas generation (supervised by postdoctoral students Almaz Sadrtdinov and Denis Tyntcev);
- Substance extraction from bark and leaves (supervised by Full Professor Rushan Safin);
- Technology of wood waste conversation into synthetic gas and other products: methanol, dimethyl ether, motor fuel leaves (supervised by of Full Professor Nail Timerbaev);
