On December 22, in Uzbekistan will be hold elections of deputies to the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis and to the Council of People's Deputies. To honor this event, in the assembly hall of building “D” a meeting of students from Uzbekistan with the university and the consulate representatives was held.
The meeting was opened by KNRTU Vice- rector for Academic Affairs Alexey Burmistrov: “The number of international students in our university is steadily growing and the most of them are students from Uzbekistan. Today we are here for talking about some significant events, such as forthcoming exams, especially for freshmen, and also the elections, that will be held next month, in which my colleagues and I will help you all to participate”.
The Attache of Consulate-General of Uzbekistan in Kazan Nuriddin Niyozov: “Forthcoming elections will mark the next stage of development of Uzbekistan, as well as enhance an image of our republic, confidently advancing in the direction of becoming a state based on the rule of law and democracy. This year’s elections for the first time will be held according to the new Electoral Code and also five political parties such as “Milliy Tiklanish” Democratic Party, “Adolat” Social Democratic Party, the People’s Democratic Party of Uzbekistan (PDPU), the Movement of Entrepreneurs and Businessmen- the Liberal Democratic Party (UzLiDeP) and the Ecological Party will participate for the first time as well. It is expected that 20 million people will vote, including 2 million of young people, for whom this vote will be the first in their life.
Advisor to the Rector for International Students’ Affairs Maxim Grishin emphasized that an international student should be a kind of example for his compatriots, so all students gathered at this meeting were encouraged to take part in the elections.
Citizens of Uzbekistan, residing abroad, may come and vote in one of the polling stations established at diplomatic missions, or register on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan and apply for participation by December 1.
International Educational Programs Faculty Assistant Professor Svetlana Matveeva listed the names of the most active students, participating in the university social life and winning prizes. At the end of the meeting the students were asking about the time of conducting of the elections, as well as each party program, thereby having demonstrated a great interest in their homeland welfare.
