Last week, a lecture “How Catalysts Make Our Lives Better” was held at KNRTU by Anastasia Babina, Director of Heterogeneous Catalysis at SIBUR, who became one of the speakers at the “Science in Faces” exhibition at the university.
Anastasia told the students about the development of catalysts for petrochemical industry - special components, without which it is impossible to produce polymers, and about the production of high-tech polymers, which have already become ordinary in our everyday life.
The students got acquainted with the role of catalysts in the production of the high-tech polymers. By the way, 8 out of 10 items that surround us are made of petrochemical products. In addition to that, Anastasia Babina spoke about her career path at SIBUR and the opportunities for young scientists in the industrial corporation.
“I started working at SIBUR as a junior researcher and now I have been promoted to the director of the whole department, which develops catalysts, sorbents and deals with their implementation in production. During my work alone, a variety of new products have been developed, which are already being used at enterprises and bring benefits. With this I want to say that innovation is happening right here and now. You can be a part of them and make outstanding discoveries with your own hands,” the speaker motivated the students.
In 2024, Anastasia Babina became the featured character of the exhibition “Science in Faces” - a gallery of portraits of outstanding Russian scientists, engineers, authors of innovative developments, winners of the Russian Presidential Prize in Science and Innovation for Young Scientists.
The exhibition is open in the main building of KNRTU until November 15.
The exhibition “Science in Faces” is a part of the “Science Nearby” initiative of the Decade of Science and Technology announced by the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation. The event is sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation and supported by the Coordination Council for Youth Affairs in the Sphere of Science and Education under the Presidential Council for Science and Education. The project partner is SIBUR.
